Snoring Surgery

The Kantu family has established a successful Sleep & Snoring Management Program based on the latest principles and modalities of treatment. As a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, Dr. Manoj Kantu maintains a strong academic interest in sleep disorders.

Snoring affects some 40 million Americans. Almost 50 percent of Americans have, at one time or another, been guilty of it. Although snoring can be an extremely annoying habit, it is usually quite harmless. Snoring surgery can effectively stop the occurrence of snoring and restore that welcome nighttime silence.

What is Snoring?
The sound of snoring occurs when there is an obstruction to the free flow of air through the passages at the back of the mouth and nose. The region where the tongue and upper throat meet the soft palate and uvula is where snoring occurs as these structures strike against each other and vibrate.

Snoring Surgery
More than 300 snoring treatment devices are registered with the US Patent Office. Uvulopalatoplasty (UPP), first introduced to the US in 1993, is an outpatient procedure for patients with simple snoring or mild sleep apnea. This surgery involves trimming the uvula and soft palate.

Health Concerns
Snoring often disrupts sleep patterns, leading to daytime fatigue and energy loss. In addition, heavy snoring is sometimes a symptom of a more serious condition called obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).Please discuss your sleep pattern or that of your mate with Dr. Kantu and/or ask for our informational brochure.
